What drives my work can be summed up in one simple idea:
Creating something out of nothing. Filling emptiness with sound — and drawing the audience into another world.
Born in Essen, Germany, I spent many years living and working in what is considered the country’s musical theatre capital, running my own studio there. This period continues to shape my creative approach today: genre‑crossing, curious, and open to unconventional combinations.
I blend acoustic and electronic elements, styles and textures, always aiming for the one thing that truly matters to me: pure emotion. Music should do more than function — it should resonate, move, and stay with you.

I’m Stefan Richter — musician, composer, and sound designer.
My main focus is on film music, musicals, and theatre and show productions. In addition, I write songs and lyrics for a wide range of artists.

Under my artist name Chai Deveraux, I have been involved in a wide variety of productions over the past 20 years. After studying sound engineering, I began producing in my own studio in 2005, initially for my band Jesus On Extasy. This was soon followed by remix work, international releases, and several Top Ten positions in the alternative charts.
To this day, I am the guitarist for the goth‑rock band Beloved Enemy and a founding member of the industrial‑rock band Jesus On Extasy.
My work is rooted in professional music production with a strong sense for atmosphere, dramaturgy, and detail. I support projects holistically — from the initial idea and musical concept through to the final mix — with reliability, creativity, and a clear artistic vision.
Whether it’s film music, a show concept, or a song production, every project starts with a blank space. And that is exactly where what truly matters begins to emerge: a distinct sound, a world of its own.
